Googling without Google

16 Jul 2008

Ron DuPlain showed me today that I can just type “go” and then my search term into the URL bar at the top of my browser!! This is so much easier than clicking through to, typing the search term into the box, and then clicking the button to search. (He was surprised I didn’t already know how to do this… “don’t you read Espressomind?” he said. Sure, I read it, but I guess I didn’t understand how tremendously useful all those details in “Customize your Firefox Location bar” would be.)

A little bit of really easy setup is required:

  • Go to
  • Right click on the search box
  • Navigate down to “Add a Keyword for this Search”
  • Set the name to whatever you want
  • Set the keyword to something simple, like I did – “go” for Google

This is going to save me tons of keystrokes every day. What am I going to do with all that extra time? My goodness, the possibilities are endless.
