Say “Hello, World!” in Adobe Flex

20 Jul 2008

Developers can build Flash/Flex applications with a minimal toolset: a text editor and the Flex SDK command-line tools.

Here is a useful, concise article on saying “Hello, World!” in Adobe Flex ( with the command-line compiler, which is part of the free Adobe Flex SDK.

In short, with the SDK installed (download, unzip, and add the SDK bin directory to the PATH), run mxmlc against an ActionScript (.as) or Flex markup (.mxml) file.  Try these event handler examples.

This is particularly useful for command-line oriented Flash/Flex developers who do not want to use or pay for Flex Builder.
